GRANITE STATE CHALLENGE IS ON HIATUS

Hear what people are saying about Granite State Challenge.

  • It's very disappointing to see such an esteemed and renowned show become cancelled. Granite State Challenge is one of the longest running quiz show programs running on television, and it is a shame that the producers decided to cut this program. At the very least, previous episode should both run regularly on NHPTV Prime and Explore! High schools around the state had a chance to show the region what their institution had to offer, and unfortunately, the company has decided to deny schools this fun activity that all ages are excited about and can relate to. Some suggestions: Perhaps schools should pay an entrance fee to join the pool! I'm sure you'll get lots of teams who will surely be willing to sign up, and you'll be able to film episodes that will last all year long. There is a separate quiz bowl league in NH, and that may be able to be tied in with this program. It's a travesty we have lost such an identifying characteristic of the Granite State!

  • I'm so disappointed to discover that funding was cut for GSC, such a great encourager of students who actually learn facts from history, science, math, and all disciplines. I, too, would like to know the amount of shortfall and whether this competition could be revived if funding was secured for it?
        Jemi Broussard, Concord, NH
  • I am wondering what amount the program is short. Could each school pay an entry fee to cover the cost? I have spoken to some very disappointed students who were supposed to compete this year and I am curious as to what amount the state has withdrawn. Thanks for your help!

  • Hi, I'm writing because I heard about Granite State Challenge being put on hiatus due to budget cuts. I've noticed on your site that you're looking for testimonials from people who have been affiliated with GSC in the past, and I'd love to provide one if you think it can be of any help. I was on the Oyster River High School GSC team as a freshman in '96-'97, when we were runners-up, and captained the team in '98-'99, when we won the SuperChallenge. I feel it was a huge part of my high school experience and education that has seen me go on in a variety of directions, currently working as a foreign policy research analyst in Washington for the Brookings Institution, and it also, more directly, led me into greater levels of trivia competition: I went on to compete on "Jeopardy!" in 2007, where I was a five-time champion and became the top winner of the 2006-07 season. It's easy for me to see how GSC has helped me in life, and I'd love to do what I can to provide a testimonial and moral support. I'd be interested in discussing any fundraising efforts as well. It'd be a shame for the students of New Hampshire not to have the opportunity that I did.

  • Hello, As a student with a passion for knowledge, I love the New Hampshire quiz bowl league. Since freshman year, my classmates and I have dreamt of being on Granite State Challenge once our senior year arrives. Therefore, understandably, the news of the hiatus of Granite State Challenge was very displeasing and discouraging to many of us, from all leagues and schools throughout New Hampshire. My wonderful coach, Donna Capern, has geared our team and helped fuel the desire to bring back Granite State Challenge. GSC is treasured, and it would be a horrible thing to waste. Please consider alternatives. Thanks

  • Please don't cancel!

  • My name is Gabe Brison-Trezise. I am a rising senior at Hanover High School, in Hanover, New Hampshire, and I just want to express how much Granite State Challenge means to me. I was fortunate enough to participate in GSC during my sophomore year, and I was excitedly looking forward to participating with my team again this year. Having talked to students from my school and other schools who were on the program in years past, I can say that GSC is a tremendously fun and educational competitive outlet for students in New Hampshire; I would hate to see it be discontinued, and I know many of my peers feel the same way. I sincerely hope you are able to secure the requisite funding for the 29th Season of Granite State Challenge. If there is anything I or my classmates or school can do to help, please let me know. All the best - Gabe Brison-Trezise

  • I understand that the Granite State Challenge show may not back next year. I certainly hope that the show continues. It is a wonderful outlet for high school students to be recognized. As an athletic director I see our athletes get recognized in many ways. This show is a great opportunity for our students to be recognized for their academic abilities. Granite State Challenge is a wonderful showcase for high school students and I do hope in continues in the future.
