Night Time

night Sometimes it seems like we spend more time in the dark in the winter than in the light! Here are some activities that can make the dark and nighttime routines a bit easier and much more fun for your family.

Create Your Own Bedtime Story

Do you have a favorite story that you like to hear before bed? Sometimes adults and children create their own bedtime stories with made-up characters, places, and adventures. Do you and your family create your own stories? If so turn those stories into a book. Write, or have an adult help write, the story on several pieces of paper. Include illustrations. Without sharing have your siblings or other adults in the family create their own illustrations. When everyone is done compare your stories and illustrations. How are they the same? How are they different? Think about why they may differ.

If you or your family has not created you're a bedtime story, make one up! This can be really fun if you take turns making up parts. Start by making up and telling a beginning part. Have a family member add the next part of the story. Keep taking turns until your story is done. Again, be sure to write it down and create your own illustrations!

What next? Enter your stories in our Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest at New Hampshire Public Television. For more information click here.
