Video On Demand

  What is Video on Demand?
Video on demand or VOD allows you to access video when you want it! On the Web this means you can access and view video live via streaming or in some instances you can download video directly to your computer or a server to view later.
   Steaming and Downloading

Streaming allows you to view video online. Streaming a video live works best when you have a high-speed Internet connection. Streaming video can be interrupted by slower connections, Internet traffic, and local network traffic. It is best to use streaming for previewing video, for viewing by an individual, or for viewing of video clips of less than five minutes. For group viewing, it is best to download a video onto a computer hard drive and use a projection system or scan converter connection to a television screen to show the video to the whole class.

Downloading allows you to save a copy of a video onto the hard drive of a computer. Many video on demand services allow you to stream or download videos. By downloading a video directly onto the hard drive, you can play the video at anytime and you don't have to be connected to the Internet. Video files can be very large, so you will need to make sure you have plenty of storage space on your computer! Downloading also allows you to use the video in computer applications like PowerPoint. To free up storage space, you can also burn the video to a CD.
