Video On Demand

Equipment

Using video on demand in the classroom may call for additional equipment beyond computers and server space. If you plan to use video on demand with a class, you will need some type of projection system connected to the computer or you will need the ability and the rights to copy programming to a DVD for later playback.

Projectors
You will need an LCD projector with at least 1200 lumens. Projectors can run from around $800 to $2500. You will need to be able to connect the computer to the projector and project onto a screen. So you will want to make sure you have sufficient connections and extensions to get the projector into the right place to project!

Scan Converters
Using a scan converter, you can connect your computer to a television to show video. A scan is a device that translates the digital signal from a computer into a video signal. Scan converters can range in price from a few hundred dollars to over $2000.

Speakers
Projectors and scan converters do not handle audio for a whole class! You may need to add speakers will provide adequate sound for a full class.
