Fire Safety

Fire SafetyOctober is fire safety month.

Each year more than 100,000 people in the United States experience a major household fire.

An estimated 2,800 children age 14 or younger are injured and 850 killed in residential fires. Of these children, over 40 percent are under the age five and 70 percent are under the age of 10.

Learn way to make your home safer and help children understand the dangers of fire and things they can do to protect themselves from fire.

Find a Firefighter

Learn more about the fire department in your town or city. Often fire departments will host open houses or come to schools to visit. Click on the link to get connected to your local fire department.

If no events are being hosted, call to see if your family or class can visit. Before you visit create a list of questions about the firefighters and the station. Be sure to ask what they do to put out a fire and what kinds of equipment they need.
