Students will be able to state some of the reasons people give to charitable causes.

Before Viewing

Have students list charitable donations they have made in the past. What prompted them to make a donation of money or time? How did they feel after they made their donation? Do they think their donation made a difference?

Pause video at 5:58 after the host states that 4 out of 5 NH residents give to charity. Poll the class and see if the class meets that standard.

After Viewing

Have students determine how much they can afford to give to charitable causes - time or money - and then investigate some organizations they might want to donate to.

Have the class identify a local charity and then plan a fundraising event for that charity.

Have students visit the Volunteer NH site and find out what local volunteering opportunities are available.

Have students visit the Charity Navigator site and investigate how various charities are spending their money.
