bella mothThere are around 11,000 species of small to medium-sized moths in this family. They are found in all parts of the world.

Many species are brightly colored and have stripes, spots, or bands on their wings.

Many of the caterpillars in this family are thickly furred. In fact, the caterpillar of the Isabella tiger moth (Pyrrharctia isabella) is the familiar banded woolly bear caterpillar.
