Salicales

This order has one family and about 350 species. All the species in this order are trees and shrubs and most are found in the cooler regions of the Northern Hemisphere. The wood of some of these trees is very flexible and is often used in making wicker furniture and baskets.

   Salicaceae - Willow Family
HophornbeamThere are about 350 species of trees and shrubs in this family. They are usually found in temperate areas in the Northern Hemisphere. Leaves on these plants alternate. Species in this family include willow, aspen, poplar and cottonwood trees.

 Popular Poplar

HophornbeamPoplar trees have soft wood that is often used to make plywood. They are also used to line streets and form windbreaks.
