See what NH ZOOMers
are doing!
ZOOM is a daily PBS series for children ages five to
eleven that's based on activity ideas sent in by viewers. Every
show is packed with science activities, games, volunteering ideas,
recipes, crafts, book reviews, jokes and plays. Throughout the
show kids are encouraged to try out activities, share their experiences,
and send their ideas to the TV show and Web site.
ZOOM Into Action is a campaign on ZOOM that
motivates young people from kindergarten through high school
to volunteer and be involved in community service. Whether it's
delivering hot meals to senior citizens, donating canned goods
to a food bank, or cleaning up a neighborhood playground, ZOOM
Into Action invites kids to "turn off the TV and do it!" Kids
who volunteer and write to ZOOM about their projects have a chance
to be featured on ZOOM. Every day, the TV show and Web site honor
kids who are making a difference in their communities. Here are
some of the NH ZOOMteam members!
There are lots of ways to help. You can rake your elderly
neighbor's leaves, serve meals at a soup kitchen, or be involved
in raising money for people in need. Check out these Youth
Volunteer Opportunities! To help decide on a volunteer
project, ask yourself these questions: (1) what kinds of things
do I like to do?; ( 2) how much time can I share? ; (3) do I want
to work alone, with a small group of family or friends, or with
an organization; (4) what new things do I want to learn? For ideas
on volunteer projects and how to get involved in your community,
check out the ZOOM website.
Feel proud that you are helping out
and making a difference. Let others know what you're doing - take
a picture, write about it, or shoot a video. Get other people
to care about the same things you do. Maybe you'll inspire them
to ZOOM Into Action, too! And be sure to tell
us about your volunteer project (Adobe Acrobat Reader required) - who knows, maybe we'll share
your story on TV or on our Web site!
So get inspired!! See what other kids
are doing around the Granite State...
