Raphidioptera - snakeflies

There are around 80 species in this order. They are found all over the world, except in Australia and Antarctica. The species in this family have a very long section of their thorax right before their first set of legs that gives them a long-necked or snake-like appearance. Adults are small, usually less than an inch in length, and have two pairs of wings and antennae. Both adults and larvae are carnivorous and eat other insects. Larvae are found under bark.
