There are over 300 species in this family of small salamanders. They range in size from one inch to a foot in length and have four toes on their front legs. The species in this family have no lungs! the northeastern U.S., on the west coast of North America, or in Central America. There are some species found in South America and southern Europe. Some species live on land and others live in the water. There are even some species in this family that climb in trees! Most species lay their eggs on land.
