Corcoracidae - Apostlebird, White-winged Chough

Classification

 Phylum: Chordata
 Class: Aves
 Order: Passeriformes
 Family: Corcoracidae

apostlebirdThere are only two species in this family. They are both found in Australia. They are very social birds and spend most of their time foraging through leaf litter searching for food and calling out to each other.

The white-winged chough is a large, black crow-like bird with red eyes, a curved bill, and large white patches on its wings that are visible when it is in flight.

The apostlebird is brownish-gray and gets its name because it was said it always traveled in groups of 12 birds, like Jesus did with the 12 apostles. It really travels in groups of 8-18 birds.
