On average, children are 10 pounds heavier at same height than they were a decade ago.
Incidence of childhood obesity has tripled in last 30 years.
With childhood obesity comes the risk of Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, asthma, sleep problems, depression, and a lifetime of weight problems. Also, there are self esteem issues and children unable to move easily withdraw from physical activities.
There is a strong correlation between obesity and academic performance.
Overweight: up to 19% over ideal weight; obese: 20% and up over ideal weight.
