Family Health Nights and Workshops

LiveFitAs part of NHPTV's LiveFIT NH community outreach project, Ready To Learn is offering learning opportunities and resources for children, parents, teachers, childcare providers, and others who work with children and families.

Workshop for Adults --"Recipe for Health: Nutrition, Exercise and Children."

The workshop focuses on:

•  Raising awareness and looking at things parents, teachers and childcare providers can do-including being an advocate.

•  Prevention: Helping children learn to make healthy choices.

•  Developing a healthy lifestyle for WHOLE family.

•  Making healthy choices fun and positive (emphasize what you can do more than what you can't do)

•  Balance!

Family Health Night for Elementary Schools (K-5) and Family Health Night for Preschools, Family Centers, and Childcare Agencies (Pre-K-3).

Family Health Nights provide an evening of fun, activities, information about family nutrition and fitness, ideas and resources, and children's health-related books. Some topics addressed include:

•  Suggestions for healthy snacks.

•  Ideas for meals that are nutritious AND low cost.

•  What's in it--looking at nutrition facts on packaging.

•  Eat Your Colors and the Food Pyramid.

•  Picky eaters.

•  Fun fitness ideas for home and school.

•  Be an advocate for healthy children.

•  Make healthy choices fun and positive.

•  Take one step.

A young Indian boy follows his vision quest to find the special gift he can bring to his people in the featured book by New Hampshire author and illustrator Tomie dePaola. Levar visits Dominic Arquero, a Native America painter who lives in a pueblo in New Mexico. Dolly Naranjo, with her daughter and mother, show how they make traditional pottery from mixing clay and shaping pots to finishing them.
