Preview the book with your child. Explain that it is a book about fall, which uses photographs instead of illustrations. Invite your child to listen to “fall” sounds as you read.

Do

Imagine another changing season like spring or winter. Does the weather get cold? Hot? What do the leaves look like?

Gather different leaves from your yard or playground. Place them under a piece of paper and rub the paper with a crayon. Watch the leaves magically appear through the paper.

Make a list of some of the changes that happen in the fall.

Take pictures of some fall scenes in your neighborhood.

Pretend you are the drizzling rain, the falling leaves or animals gathering nuts and seeds. How do you move? What sounds do you make? How do you feel?

On a fall day, LeVar stops to express appreciation for the gifts of the earth. We connect to the earth with a visit to a family who grows and harvests cranberries, then on to a pueblo where native artists use clay from the earth to make pottery, and finally to a group of children who are planting trees in their neighborhood. Children sing "Come You Dreamers," a song about taking care of the earth.

Summer - by Marjorie N. Allen and Ron Hirschi
Baby animals spend the summer growing, playing and learning from their parents. No matter where you live, there is a cycle of seasons which impacts on the weather, plants and animals. In some locations it is extreme, in others it isn't. LeVar shows just how special each seasonal change is to the plants, animals, and world around us. Viewers also visit a cranberry farm during harvest.

Snowy Day: Stories and Poems - by Caroline Feller Bauer
This book is a collection of stories and poems with snow as a common theme.
