NH in the Space Program
Friday 5/16 at 7:30 p.m.
John Clayton hosts this special program on New Hampshire in space. A look at the role New Hampshire people have played in our space program over the years. Beginning with Derry’s Allen Shepard who manned the rocket flight of Freedom 7 on May 5, 1961. And followed that up with a place on the crew of Apollo 14 stepping on the moon in February 1971. Then, we follow the tragic path of the Concord high school teacher, Christa McAuliffe, as she becomes the first civilian in space - and the first civilian to loose her life in the deadly accident of the Challenger on January 28, 1986. However, New Hampshire would go on to have more astronauts per capita than any other state. And, New Hampshire businesses and scientific labs have supplied a good deal of technology to the space program.

John Clayton hosts this program from the New Hampshire Furniture Maker’s Association show in Manchester. We meet some of the best furniture makers in New England at this special fundraising event. Then, we profile the New Hampton School’s very successful postgraduate year basketball program headed up by coach Jamie Arsenault. This program is one of the 3 or 4 top postgraduate year programs in the country. Finally, we focus on Jennifer Baybrook, the youngest and first female world yoyo champion. She lives in St.Albans, Vermont and travels the world doing demonstrations.
