Charitable Giving
Is Focus of NHPTV’s Outlook on Money Series

— Program Airs Monday, December 19th @ 7:30 p.m.
on New Hampshire Public Television —

(DURHAM, December 14, 2005) - Who gives? New Englanders top the list of generous givers, donating more to secular causes than other regions across the country. New Hampshire residents alone donated nearly half a billion dollars in 2003 (according to the most recent data available), with 80 percent of households contributing to charitable causes. When it comes to the percentage of residents contributing, not-so-stingy Granite Staters outpaced the rest of the nation by more than 15 percent.

A new segment of Outlook on Money, airing on NHPTV’s award-winning nightly program, NH Outlook, Monday, December 19th @ 7:30 p.m., identifies favorite charities and examines why New Hampshire citizens donate money to charitable causes.

The program profiles the Kaubris family of Dover, New Hampshire. They’ve made charitable giving part of their lifestyle. Beyond including charitable contributions as an important part of the family budget (even their two children donate part of their allowances!), the Kaubrises are active in a variety of local causes. Stan Kaubris has also developed a personal finance course for St. Thomas Aquinas High School, which encourages students to support their favorite charities.

NH Outlook host Beth Carroll also interviews local experts on the benefits of giving. Guests include Liz Hager, Executive Director, United Way; Mary Ellen Sheffield, NH Center for Non-Profits; Deborah Schachter, Charitable Foundation; and Marianne Jones, Executive Director, Women’s Fund of NH. They’ll discuss charitable tax deductions and provide guidance on giving in the Granite State.
