NHPTV Receives Five Awards at NHAB Golden Mike Ceremony

(DURHAM, October 22, 2008) — New Hampshire Public Television received a first place and four merit awards during the recent New Hampshire Association of Broadcasters (NHAB) annual Golden Mike Awards ceremony in Concord.

NHPTV’s public affairs program, NH Outlook, received a first place in the Feature Story category for a piece called Kaddish, about the healing power of art. New Hampshire composer Larry Siegel wove together the words and memories of Holocaust survivors to create a work of remembrance and hope called “Kaddish.” The musical work was created to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Cohen Center for Holocaust Studies at Keene State College (Richard Ager, reporter/producer; Jonathon Millman, videographer/editor).

NH Outlook also received two merit awards, the first for a Spot News story about presidential primary candidate Mike Huckabee. The Arkansas governor talked about his humble beginnings, faith and politics, the Iraq war, rock 'n' roll inspiration and why he wants to be the next president (Richard Ager, reporter/producer; Steve Giordani, videographer; Rebecca Reilly, editor).

The second merit award was for a Documentary program called The War: NH’s War Stories, which focused on WWII stories. The NH Outlook special featured an Italian immigrant family from Claremont who sent five brothers into battle; two wartime workers at the Portsmouth Navy Shipyard; and the WWII-focused Wright Museum of Wolfeboro (Dawn DeAngelis, executive producer; Kim Piela, program producer; Beth Carroll, host/producer; Phil Vaughn and Richard Ager, producers; Adam Donovan, associate producer; Jonathon Millman and Steve Giordani, videographers; Rebecca Reilly, editor).
