Franklin Pierce University Student Receives Scholarship at NHPTV Women of Influence Luncheon

(Durham, November 15, 2010) – Frangelica Odell, a Franklin Pierce University junior, was awarded the Charter Charitable Foundation Scholarship for Communications/Media Students at the 2010 New Hampshire Public Television Women of Influence luncheon in Manchester November 12th. Guest speaker at the luncheon was Rebecca Eaton, executive producer of the acclaimed PBS MASTERPIECE series. The NHPTV Women of Influence event brings together individuals who have contributed to the advancement of women in leadership positions.Odell, who is studying mass communication and media studies, received a $2,500 scholarship from the Charter Charitable Foundation. The scholarship is awarded to a student for outstanding work and who shows promise in communications, and particularly public broadcasting. A columnist for The Pierce Arrow college newspaper, she writes book reviews and opinion pieces. As president of the university’s Ecology Club, she works on efforts to educate the campus community on sustainable living. [PHOTO AVAILABLE]Eaton, executive producer of the acclaimed PBS MASTERPIECE series since 1985, has been responsible for such high-profile titles as Prime Suspect, Bleak House, The Lost Prince, Inspector Morse, Miss Marple, Tony Hillerman’s Skinwalkers, Coyote Waits and A Thief of Time, The Complete Jane Austen, Cranford, Wallander and Little Dorrit. Her accolades include 28 Primetime Emmy Awards, 16 Peabody Awards, a Golden Globe and two Academy Award nominations. In 2008, she oversaw the successful launch of the new MASTERPIECE series themes (Classic, Mystery! and Contemporary), with new hosts and a new look.Proceeds from the NHPTV Women of Influence luncheon support New Hampshire Public Television’s award-winning programs and services. Chairing the event were Barbara A.M. Maloney, Esq. and Barbara A. Pitsch, Ed.D. The planning committee included Kit Reno; Pat Findlen, Granite United Way; Mary J. Ford, Ed.D, Granite State College; and Lois Haskins, President, Talking Numbers and a member of the NHPTV Board of Directors. The Charter Trust Company was the lead event sponsor.
