(NHPTV)
Public television outreach extends the impact of public
broadcasting through a variety of media services, educational
materials & collaborative activities. This work is designed
to engage individuals and foster community participation to raise
awareness and effect change. Through its unique communications
systems, NHPTV serves by connecting its audience with New Hampshire
and each other, by convening a community that seeks quality entertainment,
coverage of relevant state issues, and better access to education.
Fully engaged in its present and committed to its future, NHPTV
celebrates and helps sustain our state's history, traditions,
and values through excellence in electronic communications. Our
mission is to serve the public interest through education, culture
and citizenship. Our logo represents the very people
who make up New Hampshire PBS - our members, underwriters,
and major donors. We share the traditions and values that make
New Hampshire special: individuality, responsibility and a strong
sense of community.
New Hampshire
Library Association
NHLA is a professional association of library personnel, trustees,
and library supporters whose purpose is to advance the interests
of its members through advocacy on library issues and increasing
public awareness of library service; to support the professional
development of its members; to foster communication and encourage
the exchange of ideas among its members; to promote participation
in the association and its sections. We have a diverse membership
of over 560 professional librarians, library paraprofessionals,
library friends, library trustees & library vendors and these
members serve many different audiences in public, academic and
special libraries. Some topics of special interest are: service
to various segments of communities (children, teens, senior citizens);
Freedom of Access to Information and Intellectual Freedom; libraries
as community centers, Community Building, Sustainable Communities;
and Lifelong Learning.
University of New
Hampshire Cooperative Extension
UNH Cooperative Extension provides New Hampshire citizens with
research-based education and information, enhancing their ability
to make informed decisions that strengthen youth, families and
communities, sustain natural resources, and improve the economy."
As a University outreach program, they have a network of professional
Extension staff located in all ten New Hampshire counties. The
staff works with local volunteers and specialists on the UNH campus
to design and conduct educational programs that meet societal,
environmental and economic needs. Their Strengthening
NH Communities Initiative includes programs such as “Community
Profiles” (helping communities take stock of where
they are today and develop an action plan for the future. It provides
a method for citizens to affirm community strengths, meet challenges
creatively through collaboration, and manage change) and “Community
Needs Assessment” (this program outlines a variety
of tools to identify the needs of one’s clientele. Tools
include surveys, focus groups, forums, interviews and demographic
data analysis).
Volunteer NH!
Volunteer NH! is a 501 (c) 3 incorporated non-profit organization
with a 25 member Board of Directors appointed by the Governor
and approved by the Executive Council. Acting as the Commission
for National and Community Service, Volunteer NH! has three main
responsibilities: 1) promote volunteerism and community service
in the state; (2) administer federally-funded statewide grants
and programs; (3) provide technical assistance and support to
state agencies, non-profits and corporations for their volunteer
efforts. Their mission is to strengthen NH communities by fostering
a spirit of service and volunteerism among citizens of all ages.
