The Forgetting: A Portrait of Alzheimer's

New Hampshire PBS, along with four partner organizations, participated in a national PBS campaign to raise public awareness of the looming Alzheimer's health crisis. A special documentary and events offered insight, context, help and hope. Additionally, community outreach activities provided Granite State citizens with a deeper understanding of this mysterious disease and offer local resources for information and assistance.

The Forgetting: A Portrait of Alzheimer's, is a 90-minute documentary that explores the disease, the toll it takes on patients and caregivers and the latest research in finding a cure. The Forgetting focuses on stories of families whose lives have been ravaged by Alzheimer's.

NH Outlook,NHPTV's award-winning nightly magazine, produced a special program (real player required) profiling the affect of Alzheimer's on former State Senator Susan McClane and her family. The segment is followed by a discussion on new research and current resources available for families and caregivers.

The national companion Web site for The Forgetting: A Portrait of Alzheimer's is an innovative resource for patients, families and caregivers. Interactive features, activities and ideas are featured.

NHPTV is one of 30 public television stations to be awarded a grant from MetLife Foundation, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting through Twin Cities Public Television, with matching grant funds provided by the Massachusetts-based Doris L. Benz Trust. The funds support community outreach activities in conjunction with the broadcast of The Forgetting: A Portrait of Alzheimer’s.
