Advice for the President-elect
As President-elect Barack Obama prepares to take office, he will be receiving a lot of advice on how to tackle the issues facing the country. One source he may reference is "Memo to the President," a new book by former Clinton Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. Secretary Albright gives a tough assessment of the Bush administration and addresses how America should alter its foreign policy to improve its world standing. She was in Portsmouth one week before the election for the "Writers on a New England Stage" program at the Music Hall. NH Outlook's Richard Ager spoke to Secretary Albright while she was in town.
USS New Hampshire
The USS New Hampshire the Navy's newest fast-attack submarine, has been christened, commissioned and is ready for service. The boat and its crew was welcomed in Portsmouth Harbor for the official commissioning ceremonies October 25th. The boat was built by the General Dynamics' Electric Boat shipyard in Groton, CT, ahead of schedule and under budget. Back in June, NH Outlook's Beth Carroll traveled to Connecticut for the christening of the USS New Hampshire and got a rare look inside the Navy's most advanced nuclear submarine.
Winter Weatherization
The recent financial crisis may be punishing, but dropping oil prices have provided some much needed relief with heating costs. Still, many families will be struggling to pay their fuel bills when the cold weather hits. The state's Office of Energy and Planning offers a weatherization program that helps low-income families stay warm for less.
NH Outlook's Phil Vaughn gets tips from an energy audit in New Durham that could help everyone save on their heating bill.
Programming note:
NH Outlook will not be seen November 23rd through December 7th so that we can bring you a special series of reports called More than Money: An Investor Survival Guide.
The series focuses on investing, retirement planning, and investor fraud amid the global economic crisis.
