Financial Markets Turmoil
There's dire concern this week about the financial markets with huge losses on Wall Street, unsettled investors and the government taking major steps to stabilize the economy. It's being called a financial crisis that's felt around the globe. Economist and UNH professor Ross Gittell offers some perspective on the crisis and discusses the impact it's having on the Granite State with NH Outlook's Richard Ager. Gittell is a James R. Carter Professor and Professor of Management at the Whittemore School of Business and Economics at the University of New Hampshire in Durham.
NH Votes 2008: Battleground NH
New Hampshire usually gets more attention during the Presidential Primary and then is largely ignored until the next primary. But that's not the case anymore. In the last week, New Hampshire has seen visits by Presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama and Vice Presidential candidate Joe Biden. It's all because New Hampshire is considered a battleground state, where the stakes are nearly as high in November as they were in the Primary. UNH political scientist Dante Scala spoke with NH Outlook's Richard Ager about why New Hampshire is so important in the race for the White House.
Food Bank Crisis
The NH Food Bank in Manchester is experiencing what it calls the worst crisis in its 24-year history. High fuel and food prices have dramatically cut donations to the Food Bank. Typically they have 500,000 to 700,000 pounds of food on hand -- this year they're averaging 100,000 to 135,000 pounds. As NH Outlook's Phil Vaughn tells us the Food Bank is trying something new to do whatever it can to increase its food supply.
