Healing Power of Art: The Kaddish Project and Artist Samuel Bak

Aired Sunday, Jun 8, 2008
Watch Program Online using RealPlayer     Healing Power of Art: The Kaddish Project and Artist Samuel Bak - NH Outlook

The Kaddish Project
In this special edition of NH Outlook we look at the healing power of art. The Jewish prayer for the dead is known as Kaddish. It is also the title of an ambitious new musical work that had its debut in Keene on May 5th, 2008. Kaddish was commissioned to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Cohen Center for Holocaust Studies at Keene State College. New Hampshire composer Larry Siegel wove together the words and memories of Holocaust survivors to create a work of remembrance and hope. NH Outlook's Richard Ager brings us the story of the production and highlights of the performance.

The Art of Samuel Bak
Samuel Bak is a New England artist who lived through The Holocaust as a young boy and later began to interpret it through his artwork. He has become known as the "Painter of the Holocaust" for his works which hang in museums and galleries around the world. Samuel Bak spoke with NH Outlook's Richard Ager during an exhibit of his paintings at the University of New Hampshire in 2006.
