Outlook on Money: Home Buying
Aired Thursday, May 26, 2005
|
In our continuing Outlook on Money series, we'll look at the basics of buying a home. We'll meet a Manchester man who thought he would never be able to afford a house of his own. He received support from the Manchester Neighborhood Housing Services, learned the nine steps to buying a home and eventually achieved his goal. This program is for those who feel that home ownership is out of their reach.
Affordable Housing
Also in this program, mobile home parks have long been a source of affordable housing for many people.
But there is a catch -- the land the homes sit on is often not owned by the resident but by a landlord. At anytime, the land owner can announce lease increases or can even sell the land out from under the residents.
There's a new manufactured home community in Barrington that's different from others. Producer Phil Vaughn shows us how it provides affordable housing while giving residents a neighborhood they own and manage.
Paul Bradley is a driving force behind the Pepperidge Woods project. He's Vice President of the NH Community Loan Fund, the non-profit organization helping create affordable neighborhoods for many people throughout the Granite State.
