Using ITV in the Classroom

Series Aligned to State Standards

Atvll Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Mathematics, and Arts ITV series aired the NHPTV Knowledge Network are aligned New Hampshire framework standards. If you use the ITV database to locate a series you can also see what New Hampshire framework standards the series addresses by clicking on the N.H. Framework Correlations link.

Teacher’s Guides

Teacher’s guides are an excellent resource to help educators maximize the use of instructional television series in the classroom. They give advance information for lesson preparation and provide tools to integrate a series into the curriculum. They also provide other support materials such as worksheets, maps, tests, bibliographies, and previewing and post-viewing activities.

You will find a link to purchase teacher’s guides, when they are available, on the right-hand side of the series page. For many series you will also find links to online teacher guides for individual series episodes. These online guides are usually in PDF format and you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to access them. For some series you will also find links to streaming video for individual episodes. You will need RealPlayer to view these online videos.

Recording and Retaining Series

On the right side of each program page is additional information about the series, including curriculum area, grade level, record rights, and program web sites. For some series, you will also find links to web sites and resources that can extend the content of the series. All series have either school-year record rights or rights in perpetuity. For series with school-year rights, you can record and retain the series as long as NHPTV Knowledge Network airs the series and your school is enrolled in the Knowledge Network. For series with rights in perpetuity, you may record and retain the series for the life of the tape.

Borrowing and Purchasing Series

Many series are available for loan or purchase. You will find links on the right side of each of these program pages that will take you to our online store where you can purchase series and guides.

tvYou can search the Database by subject and grade level. For each series you will find detailed episode descriptions, schedules, related series, and links to related web resources. For many series you will also find online lesson plans and related websites. Programs are only available for online viewing.

Accessing Online Media

You can access selected series on the web via videostreaming. Some of the series are password protected. Contact the Knowledge Network for the password for your school or SAU. Home schools can also be issued a password. You will need RealPlayer to access these online videos. Recording Online Videos: If you are using the latest version of RealPlayer, you can also download videos to your RealPlayer Library. Note: Some of the series listed feature video hosted by Annenberg Media.
