THE ROOSEVELTS: AN INTIMATE HISTORYlight bulb
Airs September 14-20 from 8-9 p.m. Repeats nightly at 10 p.m. on NHPTV PRIME
This 16 hour documentary from Ken Burns chronicles the lives of Theodore, Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, three members of the most prominent and influential family in American politics. The film follows the Roosevelts for more than a century, from Theodore's birth in 1858 to Eleanor's death in 1962. Over the course of those years, Theodore would become the 26th President of the United States and his beloved niece, Eleanor, would marry his fifth cousin, Franklin, who became the 32nd President of the United States. Together, these three individuals not only redefined the relationship Americans had with their government and with each other, but also redefined the role of the United States within the wider world. NHPTV HAS A NATIONAL WINNER!
Congratulations to Jishnu Dey of Dover, New Hampshire! He was the national first place winner for third grade in the PBS KIDS Writers Contest. His story, A Humble Book of Poems (With a Little Seasoning) was a collection of beautifully illustrated poems about the seasons.

This is the second year in a row that NHPTV has had a national winner. Last year Stephen Denio of Manchester was the national second place winner for second grade for his story, Percy Learns a Lesson - the tale of a pencil that missed out on having fun because he was afraid of being sharpened.

You can see all the winning stories from NHPTV here. We are getting ready for next year's contest, which officially begins on January 1, 2015, but there is nothing to stop kids or classes from working on their stories now! The rules will stay exactly the same! Learn More >>
