NHPTV Internship Program

During the period, December 1, 2006 – November 30, 2007 NHPTV has employed six student interns. In most cases the internships are part-time and take place during the school year although some full-time summer internship opportunities may exist or be created for the right applicant.

Criteria

It is recommended that students seeking internships at NHPTV be college students pursuing a degree. However, high school students will be considered on an individual basis. Students must have a strong commitment to the internship experience and be planning to pursue or be pursuing a degree in communications, broadcasting, public relations, development, business, political science, journalism, education or other related areas.

NHPTV Interns may be involved in the following areas:

Communications
Information Technology
Production
Programming

How to apply: Individuals may obtain an internship application online, by calling 603 868-1100 or by writing to:

NHPTV Job Fair Program

On October 18, 2007 the New Hampshire Association of Broadcasters sponsored the Association's Annual Career Expo and Job Fair.

All radio and television stations in the state of New Hampshire are encouraged to participate. The job fair is designed to: a) meet new and experienced broadcasters who may be searching for a job at a NH station; b) meet individuals looking for more information on an educational level about the many career opportunities in broadcasting; c) meet prospective college students who may be considering broadcasting for a course of study or major; and d) meet students looking for internship opportunities.

The following management level personnel attended:

Marc Diessner, Manager of Production
Adam Frost, Crew Chief

NHPTV Mentor Program

NHPTV created the Staff Mentor Program to help with the important transitional period for a new employee. A staff mentor is there to help during the critical first 6 months of employment at NHPTV. A mentor is normally from outside the immediate working group, and has volunteered to help a new employee get accustomed to the working environment. It may mean just answering questions or perhaps helping to introduce those people at UNH or NHPTV who are expert in an activity or matter they are interested in or concerned about.

During the last reporting period NHPTV has assigned eleven mentors to the eleven staff members hired. The mentors were all selected according to their knowledge of  NHPTV, their length of service, area of expertise, and organizational status in relation to the new hire. The program has been very successful. The mentor is equipped to orient the new staff member to the culture of the organization (NHPTV and UNH) while the staff member's supervisor orients them to the department.
